Brooke (3) looking forward to 4th 5k!

She might only be three years old, but little Brooke Donohoe is taking part in the Race For Life for her fourth time.

Both Brooke and her mum, Jemma have been taking part in the charity event for the past three years and are gearing up for this year’s run at the end of May.

Mum Jemma said: “We started doing the race just for a bit of fun.

“She was only eight months old when she got her first medal and it’s just stuck since then.”

Jemma added: “It’s her fourth time this year, she’s done really well.”

The Race for Life is the largest women-only charity event in the UK and has raised £457m for Cancer Research since it began in 1994.

Brooke has slowly graduated from being pushed the entire distance in the pram, to partly walking, and is now ready to try to take on the full 5K on foot.

Like many people, Jemma’s family and friends have been touched by the devastating impact of cancer and she sees the race as a way for her to do something to help fund research.

“I’ve had family members that have died because of cancer, like almost everyone,” added Jemma.

“It touches so many people. Last year was the first year that Brooke really knew what she was doing and what the race was about and she had a great time.”

The race takes place on Sunday, May 27 in Stirling and Jemma and Brooke will join with thousands of other women looking to raise cash for Cancer Research.

The charity’s area event manager for the Stirling Race for Life, Carolyn Johnston, said: “This is a tremendous effort by Jemma and Brooke and we are really grateful to them for signing up and raising money for life-saving research.

“Their efforts show that Race for Life is all about having fun. It’s not about being fast or fit, instead it’s a celebration of sisterhood and hope.

“Thanks to research into cancer, hundreds of thousands of lives have already been saved. With help from the people of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, Cancer Research UK intends to save many more.”
