Customers have contacted the Cumbernauld News and Kilsyth Chronicle to express concern about the level of safety and privacy at the recently modernised post office in Abronhill’s Pine Road.
Pensioner Catherine Smith wrote in to say she was “worried and angry” about the new layout, adding that she had decided against collecting cash due to the lack of privacy on the counter.
Other readers have vented similar fears by phone.
A Post Office spokesperson said: ”The change at Pine Road Post Office is part of major modernisation programme across the Post Office network.
“The open plan format is a different way of providing our service, but security and privacy is not compromised.
“As with any other branch, we have robust security procedures in place.
“Anyone handling Post Office transactions, including new staff, will be fully trained on all operational and service issues, including customer privacy.”
