A Cumbernauld man has been declared a Commended Winner in a national health and safety awards scheme.

Craig Shankley of Dawn Homes, gained the honour in the first round of the contest in the best site small builder category.

He was singled out for his work on the Barwood Quarry site on Burngreen Brae, Kilsyth.

Now he is shortlisted for both regional and national awards, to be revealed at a gala event on July 4 at the ICC in Birmingham, featuring guest speaker Sir Clive Woodward.

Craig and other UK winners will now be vetted again by a panel of health and safety professionals from independent industry bodies.

These include the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Construction Skills, and Constructing Better Health.
