Dean Carroll, 23, from Cumbernauld, joins the firm as operations co-ordinator, a position which will see him cover a range of administration roles.

He will also be trained in airside operations.

Previously a bathroom fitter, Dean is keen to learn to fly and hopes to take passengers on Fly Scenic Scotland trips.

He said: “I am really excited about my career change at Border Air.

“I am keen to learn as much as I can about the practical and administrative side of the industry.

“Taking to the skies is a definite future aim and I am confident that I have the right team around me to progress.

“Many of the Border Air pilots are very experienced in training and so I will be learning from the very best.”

Meanwhile, Kirsty Smith, 20, also from Cumbernauld, was previously involved in aviation, but not professionally.

She will be covering an administrative role at the weekends, booking in pilots for training and customers for sightseeing trips.

Kirsty said: “I am looking forward to introducing more people to flying, as it is an amazing experience, whether it is one trial lesson which they’ll never forget or they wish to earn their pilot’s licence.

“I love that I get to meet people who have been involved in the industry for many years and getting to hear some stories from these individuals.”

Border Air provides aircraft charter and flight training services from the airport, as well as its bases in Oban and Carlisle.

It also incorporates the newly re-branded airline, Fly Scenic Scotland, which operates a range of sightseeing flight experiences for consumer and corporate markets.
