Call for action on school hall

THE problem of what to do with a listed building in Kildrum could soon be solved as North Lanarkshire Council has put the former Kildrum Primary School hall on the market.

The school that once stood on the site has been long since torn down, with only the hall remaining. The hall is protected as a Category “B” listed building, an example of the work of the architectural firm Gillespie, Kidd & Coia.

But since the closure of the primary school the hall has remained unused and now many want to see it torn down, including Councillor Tom Johnston who has asked Historic Scotland to de-list what he calls an “eyesore”.
