Charity was big fight winner

Kilsyth’s Burngreen Road boxing gym became an embattled arena for a fight to the finish – cheered on by a capacity crowd.

But the only official result from the epic Clash of the Titans encounter between Barry “Pretty Ugly Boy” Hutchinson and Eddie “The Bald Eagle” Blackwood is that the Brain Research Trust charity collected a cool £1,000 from the event’s gate money.

Barry and Eddie staged their historic fundraising duel to honour the memory of a friend who tragically died during a break in Holland.

The entire Kilsyth boxing community rallied round to support the fight, and the funds from the night will add to money already raised from football and other events.

Meanwhile Kilsyth’s popular Coachman Hotel was even busier than usual that Saturday night, as it is generously volunteered to lay on a congratulatory buffet after the fight.
