Children’s £160k play area meeting success

A PUBLIC consultation to discuss proposed plans for a play area in Cumbernauld Community Park was hailed as a success.

An estimated 100 members of the community attended the meeting at Cumbernauld Primary and St Andrew’s Primary school joint campus last Wednesday to put forward their opinions on the suggested plans for a new play area.

North Lanarkshire Council have backed the project and are ready to provide £160,000 of funding.

Chairman of the Friends of Cumbernauld Community Park group, Barney Kinsler, was at the meeting and was pleased with the response.

Barney said: “Things went very well and we had a positive response.

“There was a great turn out and we had asked for children to come along, so we could hear their views, and we got that. They had lots of fun and got to put stickers onto pictures of the things they liked about other play parks.

“We got some very useful comments and feed back.”

Sandra Mousdale, play services manager with North Lanarkshire Council, echoed Barney’s comments and said: “We had a very positive meeting which was well attended. The majority of people were in favour of the play area development. In several years of hosting such meetings, I’ve never been to one with so many children – some of whom contributed to the discussion.”

She added: “We will use this feedback from the meeting to prepare a report that we could use for external funding applications as well as using the information from the survey that residents completed to inform the specification for the play facility.”
