Chris notches up hislatest 10k triumph

Dedicated Cumbernauld fundraiser Christopher Dewar covered himself with glory at the recent 10k spectacular in Strathclyde Country Park.

For the keen athlete used the hugely popular event to raise £700 for the Maggie’s Centres from sponsorship funds.

It’s not the first time he’s taken part in the 10k, and his past efforts have also included collecting cash for the Watch Us Grow charity.

But Chris, 30, who has learning difficulties, excelled himself yet again by not only completing the biggest race of the year but also by raising a small fortune for a worthy cause.

He is a regular attendee and participant at events which lend themselves to fundraising efforts, and is now so well known in and around his home in Condorrat that plenty of friends and neighbours know he’s striving to collect funds for charity ventures and are only too pleased to help out.

Chris works at the Castlecary House Hotel and also attends New College Lanarkshire in Cumbernauld two days per week.

His mum Maureen said: “Everyone knows him because he’s such a kind and friendly character – and a lot of local people were happy to help him collect money for a good cause.

“He raised an impressive amount at the 10k last year, too, and really does his best for causes he knows will benefit local people.

“His dad John and I are really proud of our son.”
