The kind-hearted officers from the Royal Naval Armament Depot in Coulport donated a revolutionary device to the centre, WHICH IS designed especially for children who have difficulty communicating.

The high-tech equipment will give a major boost to kids affected by cerebral palsy, allowing them to ‘speak’‟ to other people.

Kirsten Bruce, marketing and fundraising manager at the Craighalbert Centre, said: “This is a fantastic donation from our friends at RNAD Coulport, and we are very grateful!

“It can take a bit of time to get used to using this equipment and now children will be able to take their time trying it out. Their parents will also have more time to see the potential benefits for their child.”

The donation means that children attending the centre will be able to try out the device at home, enabling parents and health professionals to decide if it is suitable for them.

Until now, the only opportunity youngsters had to try out a similar device required them to join a very long waiting list to be assigned a short trial period with the equipment.

A spokesman for the MOD Police said: “The officers collect money every year and have been doing so for at least 20 years.

“Their principle charity is Yorkhill, but over the years they’ve also spread it around a bit, usually for personal reasons. One of the officers sons attended the centre so they wanted to help.”
