Commuters warned of planned rail strike

Train services through the southside and out of Glasgow could be affected if the planned UK-wide RMT industrial action goes ahead next week.

Final amended timetables are promised for later this week, but a number of services are anticipated to run at reduced level.

On Monday (May 25) only, Glasgow Central to Paisley Gilmour Street, Neilston via Queens Park and Newton via Maxwell Park should be in operation.

ScotRail has also named Edinburgh to Glasgow (via Falkirk High), Central to East Kilbride, Queen St to Anniesland and to Cumbernauld as running Monday and Tuesday.

Each service is likely to run on a reduced basis between 7.15am and 5.45pm, with timetables available at www.scotrail.co.uk/strike.

Phil Verster, managing director of the ScotRail Alliance, warned: “If this UK-wide industrial action goes ahead as planned, the impact on customers is going to be severe.

“We will only be able to run a handful of services, and those that we are able to run will operate on a reduced service.

“Those services will be much busier than usual, so if customers are able to make other arrangements, I would kindly ask them to please do so.”

Unions RMT and TSSA are in ongoing talks with Network Rail in a bid to halt the bank holiday strike.
