Controversial housing plan angers residents

RESIDENTS at a luxury housing development near a Cumbernauld beauty spot are up in arms about a planning application which is arguably the most controversial of 2011.

The Collingwood estate near Broadwood Loch boasts homes worth more than a quarter of a million pounds and have drawn buyers far beyond the town.

They were built by the Walker Group, and residents say they were assured by the developer that no other type of housing would be built in their midst.

It now transpires that Link Housing has applied to North Lanarkshire Council to build an “affordable social housing complex” called Carradale Crescent, right next to Collingwood.

Irate residents say they were kept in the dark about the application by NLC, Walker Group and Link – and only discovered about the project when the applicant invited them to an information evening.

They now claim NLC has not followed due practise in regard to the application – which they believe is a highly unsuitable addition to their neighbourhood.
