Employees of the council, which is set to host The British Transplant Games in 2017, stripped off to help raise awareness of the importance of joining the Register.

With someone dying every day in the UK waiting on an organ transplant, the “We Need Everybody” campaign aims to highlight that anyone can be an organ donor, regardless of age, shape, size or ethnicity.

The Westfield Health British Transplant Games will see more than 750 competitors competing in 25 sporting events over four days in North Lanarkshire in August 2017.

There are 540 people in Scotland currently waiting on a life-saving transplant and the annual event aims to demonstrate the benefits of transplantation and the role of the NHS Organ Donor Register in saving lives.

Currently, 43 per cent of the population in Scotland is on the NHS Organ Donor Register, however the more people that join, the more lives that can be saved.

The council’s corporate service improvement manager Linda Johnston was among those to strip off.

She said: “Taking most of your clothes off in front of your colleagues is certainly unusual, but it was for a great cause and after our initial nerves we had a good laugh about it.

“We’re really proud that in just 12 months’ time North Lanarkshire will be hosting the British Transplant Games.”
