Councillor concerned about latest Kilsyth break-in

CCTV equipment has been nicked by thieves who broke into the premises of a Kilsyth business on Thursday, August 30.

McLanachan Transport in Garrell Road was broken into at around 3am, and is the latest business in the town to be targeted by thieves.

The News and Chronicle website reported last week that Kilsyth hairdressers Elle was broken into sometime between 6.30pm on Friday, August 24 and 7.40am the next day.

A three-figure sum of cash was stolen from the Main Street business and it came after mounting concerns about a spate of break-ins in the area.

We also recently reported that a special crime team had been deployed to track down those responsible for a spate of break-ins in the town.

At least nine businesses in Kilsyth’s Main Street and Garrell Vale Industrial Estate have been targeted by criminals in recent weeks.

Kilsyth councillor Jean Jones admits she is concerned about the problem.

She said: “I am extremely concerned about the amount of break-ins to local businesses and hope this does not deter people coming to the area to trade or cause existing people to leave.

“Why all of sudden is Kilsyth being targeted?

“If this continues all local companies will suffer by higher insurance premiums. I hope the police manage to catch someone for this sooner.”
