Michelle Laycock ran after the thief for around two miles before confronting him and grabbing £15 worth of stolen coins from his jogging bottoms.

Michelle said: “I was so angry that I chased after the man.

“I have dislocated kneecaps so I don’t know how I managed to run so far.

“It was the adrenaline that kept me going.

“I was absolutely shattered afterwards and I had torn leg muscles.”

The drama started at 3.30pm on Saturday, September 27. Michelle returned indoors from a walk to see a man in his 20s jumping out from behind the main desk, which had been left unattended.

The thief emptied the contents of the charity tin – around £40 in cash – onto the counter before putting the coins into his jogging bottoms. He ran out, pursued by Michelle.

The intruder thought he had given Michelle the slip after reaching land near Overton Farm.
