Craigholme girls take their lead from first minister

A rousing speech by first minister Nicola Sturgeon inspired Craigholme girls to grab vicotry at the Scottish Schools U18 indoor hockey cup.

The politician visited the Pollokshields school last week and told the all-girl assembly: “If you work hard, the sky’s the limit.

“Be all you can be. You can achieve whatever you set your heart on.”

And it’s a message which hit home for the hockey team, who travelled to Perth the next day and beat Strathallan (4-3), Heriot’s (3-2) and Robert Gordon’s College (5-1).

Principal Brendan Farrelly told The Extra: “I want to thank our first minister, not only for visiting our school, but also for being such an inspirational figure for our pupils.

“We tell our girls that nothing should stop them from realising their hopes and dreams. This was Nicola Sturgeon’s message, and it certainly inspired our magnificent hockey team.”
