Condorrat break-in drama -and arrest made over bogus caller

A pair of burglars broke into a house in broad daylight sparked a police chase and one even dished out abuse to police when he was caught.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (May 26) at around 4.30pm in Condorrat’s Thorniecroft Drive.

Cumbernauld police were alerted to the robbery and rushed to the scene - to find the housebreaking in progress.

The pair legged it and officers ran after them -an succeed in catching up with one of the men who is 29-years old.

He remonstrated with police and has now been charged with threatening and abusive conduct towards them - in addition to the charge he faces for housebreaking with intent to steal.

Now the search is underway for the second man who is thought to be in his mid to early 20s and is around five foot eight in height.

He is of thin build and was wearing a black skip hat and black puffer jacket. Anyone with any information should contact police on 101 quoting crime number NC03010520.

Meanwhile police have confirmed that an arrest has been made in regard to an incident flagged up on our website on Monday.

We told how a bogus caller allegedly stole the purse of an elderly lady in Seafar’s Barke Road on Saturday, May 23.

The man had gained access to the item after chatting to the woman about work to her guttering.

It has now been confirmed that Cumbernauld police have arrested a 44-year-old man in regard to this - and that enquiries are ongoing.
