A 46- year- old man died in an incident at a block of flats after plunging three storeys to the ground below.
The victim – who has been named locally as Jodie McLean – was a well-known figure and was often seen in the town centre.
There has been speculation as to the nature of the death which is being investigated by detectives and has sparked much comment locally.
Despite this police are remaining tight-lipped on their progress at this stage.
However, several key facts about the tragedy have emerged.
Officers called to the maisonette flats in Kildrum’s Afton Road at 11.35pm on Friday, August 21, amidst claims that a man had fallen.
Neighbours were awoken as teams of specialist officers were quickly drafted in to deal with the situation.
A tent was erected around the area as paramedics moved in.
Forensics have since been combing the area.
A police spokesperson said: “Officers found the man seriously injured.
“He was taken by ambulance to Monklands Hospital but was found to be dead on arrival.’’
The reluctance of police to comment further revolves around the fact that no post-mortem had taken place by the time of going to press.
They are expected to provide some sort of update on this before the end of the week.
It is thought that Mr McLean was a resident of Carbrain who had been visiting the house in question.
