Cumbernauld Police confirm another Condorrat pensioner has been robbed by bogus caller

The Cumbernauld News has been asked to flag up another incident which has seen a second pensioner defrauded by a bogus caller in Condorrat within a fortnight.

As we have reported, the first victim was an 89-year-old in Lomond Grove on Wednesday, October 14 but police were called to investigate another incident which took place yesterday (Wednesday, October 28)

This occurred in nearby Lomond Drive around 12.30pm when a white male though to be around 40 to 50 years old, wearing a trenchcoat and cap approached his elderly female victim.

He cynically claimed to be assessing potential structural damage which he said was affecting a nearby building.

When entry was gained to allegedly check windows for signs of wear and tear the suspect appears to have taken the opportunity to steal a quantity of cash from within.

Communities inspector Neil MacLeod said: “I would urge the community to be vigilant particularly for any elderly neighbours and to report any canvassing at doors which raises suspicion.

“Any representative of a legitimate company, be it Scottish Gas or Scottish Water or other will be in uniform and/or will have identification.

“If anyone has any concerns please contact police as soon as possible to allow best opportunity for police to engage with the individual and do not allow them into your home.
