Female OAP among those arrested for supplying Class A drugs in Cumbernauld

A 67-year old woman was arrested after a drugs raid led to the discovery of illegal substances in a Cumbernauld house.

Police have confirmed that plain clothes officers with a warrant joined specialist colleagues and a dog unit to target the house in Carbrain’s Stonylee Road in a highly charged operation last Thursday (September 3) at 8.30am.

And the operation led to the recovery of a variety of drugs ranging from Class A to Class C and saw three arrests from the scene.

Communities Inspector Neil MacLeod said: “A 67-year old female and 35- year old male were arrested and have been charged with being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs and also with obstructing officers in the execution of their duties.

“A 44-year old male was also arrested from the address for an alleged breach of bail conditions.

“Without the support of community intelligence action like this is not possible.

“Drugs are a blight on our community and as such we are always looking to target and take action against those who are profiting out of its supply .”

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident on the same day, a 17-year old male was also arrested after allegedly conducting a drugs deal in plain sight of officers on patrol at The Wynd in Cumbernauld Village .

Police quickly swooped and the teenager was arrested on the scene at 3pm where Class B drugs were found.

Class BG drugs were also recovered following a subsequent search of the teenager’s home.

The male has been charged with supplying drugs to a named person and being in possession of controlled drugs with the intent to supply them.

However this would not be the last arrest for drugs in the town and like the first incident it concerns the supply of Class A drugs in Carbrain, in this case cocaine.

Police on patrol were also responsible for the discovery.

The officers in question had been on foot patrol in Millcroft Road around 5pm on Saturday (September 5) in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area.

A 19-year-old-male was stopped and searched by officers who were in plain clothes and this lead to the discovery of what police describe as a “considerable” amount of drugs.

Police searched the man’s home after a warrant was obtained and confirmed that more class A drugs were seized at the address.
