Female pedestrian (67) dies in road accident at Newhouse

A 67-year-old female pedestrian has died after being struck by a car near Newhouse on Saturday (August 8).

The accident occurred around 1.40pm when the woman was crossing the B7066 Glasgow and Edinburgh Road near to its junction with Bothwellshields Road.

She was struck by a grey Seat Alhambra car being driven by a 30 year-old woman.

Police and ambulance attended the scene of the collision but sadly the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her relatives are aware of the tragedy.

However, police have not revealed the identity of the deceased to the media in line with a request from the family.

The driver of the Seat was uninjured in the incident and her passengers – a man and two children – were also uninjured.

Sergeant Craig McDonald, of the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Motherwell, said: “Our investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has any information that may assist our enquiries to contact us.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was driving on the B7066 around the time of the crash who has dash-cam footage to get in contact with us.”
