Pensioner (79) conned out of three figure sum in Cumbernauld

Cumbernauld Police have been in touch once again to warn about doorstep fraudsters who callously targeted a pensioner.

They are dealing with one reported incident which took place on Friday, July 31 - and are actively seeking more information about anyone else who may have been approached by two men, posing as tradesmen in Kildrum’s Corbiston Way.

Officers say that they were called in after the pair made contact with a 79-year-old householder around the 12.30pm mark.

They offered to do work on the home and were given a three figure sum to carry it out.

However the work was not done and the alarm was raised at Cumbernauld police station.

The victim was able to provide a detailed description of one of the men who is around five foot nine inches tall and of stocky build and looks between 30 to 40 years old.

He was wearing denim jeans or long denim shorts and sounded either English or Irish.

Communities inspector Neil MacLeod said: “The community should be mindful that this type of crime is occurring in our area and if they have any concern about potential bogus workmen being in their area then contact police at an early stage.

“We are keen to hear from anybody else who may have had interaction with these males or may have further information which could assist police in their inquiry.
