Police seeking would-be knifepoint robber

Police are hunting for a man who attempted to rob two security guards yesterday.

The incident took place outside the Pivot Centre in Moodiesburn shortly before 3pm. Two guards were performing a cash transit when they were approached by a man who threatened them with a bladed weapon. However the robbery failed and the man ran off empty handed, leaving the security guards uninjured but shaken.

The suspect is a white man, around five feet eight inches tall and of medium build. He wore a black leather jacket, grey tracksuit trousers and white trainers, as well as aviator style sunglasses and a green or khaki woollen hat.

Detective Ian Smith commented: “We have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and gathering CCTV footage to gather more information on the man responsible for this incident. I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious around the time of this incident to come forward. In particular I would like to trace the occupants of a white saloon car, possibly a taxi, which was within the car park area just prior to the incident.”

Any information should be given to Coatbridge Police office via the 101 non-emergency number. Alternatively information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
