Police urge public to help them nail gun thugs

Police, analysing CCTV footage and conducting enquiries in and around Westfield. have urged anyone with information of the crime to come forward.

During Thursday’s teatime raid three men, one brandishing a firearm, forced a man locking up at vending machine firm Selecta to let them into the building – where they helped themselves to reportedly £50,000 before fleeing the scene.

The victim was left unhurt but badly shaken by his ordeal, which happened around 5.10pm.

The gang fled in a red estate car, possibly an old-type model, and the man they had threatened phoned the police.

Detective Inspector David Reilly, appealing to Cumbernauld residents who were in Westfield at the time, said: “There are two roads leading into this industrial estate and the incident occurred around finishing up time, so it’s possible the red car and its occupants were seen by people as they left work yesterday.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have noticed the car or who has any information to contact us.”

The first suspect is in his late 40s, around 5 ft 9 ins, slim built and “unkempt” looking.

The second is in his 40s, 5 ft. 9 ins, also slim built, and wore a black balaclava. The third suspect is in his 20s, “skinny”, and around 5 ft 6 ins.
