Sickening spate of bogus calls have seen elderly residents robbed by con-artists in two streets

Officers say that "on all occasions" a three-figure sum was involved in this as the brass-necked fraudsters enjoyed alarmingly high strike rate.

The incidents took place in Seafar's Liddel Road and Fleming Road on Monday, July 5.

Police cannot rule out that there were even more victims as this crime is often under-reported because of the embarrassment factor of those involved, many of whom will not tell their families let alone the police.

As we reported last week, Condorrat was also the scene of an identical crime when a Morar Court resident was also robbed of a three-figure sum on Sunday, June 27.

The plausible-seeming fraudster was smartly attired in a dress shirt and claimed to work for the water board.

Police are still working to identify all the criminals involved.

PC Michael Steenson said: "We are just reminding people to check for I.D should someone arrive at their door, to not let anyone they do not recognise or expect inside their homes, to keep their door closed and locked and to report any suspicious activity to police.

“We’d also like people to keep an eye out for their neighbours and report anything suspicious on 101.”
