Sword shock in Cumbernauld

Police in Cumbernauld were called out on Thursday amidst public safety fears regarding a man with a weapon.

The man had been spied near Asda around 8.25pm and when officers arrived on the scene, it emerged that the individual had been carrying a Samurai sword.

The matter did not end there after officer mounted a cursory search of the man - who was found in alleged possession of drugs.

Police then took the man to the police station in Coatbridge.

Further drugs were discovered on his person at this point.

The man was held in custody and was expected to have appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court by time of going to press.
