Croy close to losing the voice of its community

CROY Community Council will fold within days if no new members come forward.

The warning came from member John McColl, who intends to bow out himself - for health reasons - fears that the group he has been forced to leave is on its last legs.

The community council has fallen victim to a lack of public interest since the death of its secretary James Hunt last month.

Mr McColl said: "It is something that has really affected us, especially as James was involved with so many different groups in the area.

"We are holding a meeting on Monday night (March 22) and if we do not get at least five new members, I will have to contact North Lanarkshire Council headquarters and have our community council wound up."

Mr McColl revealed that he had already made the call which he thought would lead to the dissolution of the group - but was asked by a NLC official to make a last ditch plea for new members.

"We would urge people to come forward because this is the ideal forum for people to raise the issues which affect them. It's a good way of getting a platform," said Mr McColl.

The meeting will take place in Croy Clinic at 6pm.
