Post Office confirmed the premises is up for sale and they are assessing the interest locally in running the service.

A spokesman for Post Office said: “Customers should be assured that the Post Office is committed to maintaining a Post Office service in Croy and will work hard to ensure this. “Consequently, we are currently assessing the interest locally in running the Post Office. This could result in a relocation of the branch.

‘‘Any such relocation would be subject to a public consultation.”

Local politicians have voiced their concerns over the news.

MP Gregg McClymont said: “Croy’s Post Office is at the heart of its strong community. The people of Croy know a reduction in service when they see one.”

MSP Mark Griffin added: “Post Office Ltd have said that they are investigating alternatives to the Croy Post Office but with only one shop in the village, I am worried that the service may be moved out of Croy completely.

“I have responded to asked Post Office Ltd to clarify what they consider a ‘suitable local alternative’ and will be making it clear that only a Croy-based Post Office will do.”
