Cumbernauld and Kilsyth gear up for their summer celebrations

Abronhill Regeneration Forum will stage the area’s event on Saturday, June 14.

And here are the young ladies who will be adding that regal touch to the long-awaited proceedings which kick off from St Lucy’s church hall in Horbeam Road at 10.30am with a giant parade

This year’s queen is Rebekah McRavey who attends Abronhill Primary and she will be ably attended to by maids of honour Bethany Mac Lachlan from Whitelees Primary and Ellie Rennie of St Lucy’s Primary.

As tradition dicates, Rebecca will be crowned by last year’s queen, Saffron McVey.

Although the event is the highlight of Abronhill’s social calendar, there is a bittersweet note to the proceedings owing to the closure of Abronhill High School which is the parade’s final destination.

Organiser Helen Hutcheson of the Abronhill Regeneration Forum said: “It will be awfully sad of course because this event has been running for eight years in this location.

“We don’t know where we are going to hold it next year but of course, we want to make it as big a day as possible for everyone involved,’’ she added.

Specially produced souvenir mugs which are destined to become collectors’ items will also go on sale on the day at a specially designated stall.

As well as all the usual attractions live music will play a big part in the extravaganza.

Home grown singing starlet Nycki Symz will kick off the programme with a live set of her latest material.

And pupils from Abronhill High School who have been working closely with the music department will then showcase their skills for locals,

Kilsyth’s Civic Week also gets underway on Saturday, June 14 with a parade that leaves Kilsyth Academy for the Burngreen at 1pm.

Other highlights include a n under 12s football tournament on Sunday, June 15, a talent show at Kilsyth Academy on Tuesday June 17, a Swimming Gala on Thursday, June 19 and a Burngreen-based gospel concert to finish.

Cumbernauld Gala Day will take place on Saturday June 21.A preview of this event will appear next week.

It’s now been confirmed thatCarbrain will stage its annual gala at St Margaret of Scotland Primary School on Saturday August 16.
