Cumbernauld BMX bike group resurrected

AFTER a break of some 20 years, Cumbernauld BMX Club is back in the saddle. To officially launch this new incarnation of the club, a three-day event has been scheduled to take place at the track in Condorrat.

This has been organised by the club and North Lanarkshire Council, and will constitute the grand finale of NLC BMX Summer Bike Week. Following two days of bike safety and maintenance workshops and coaching on August 2 and 3, run by NLC’s road safety team, the race itself will be held on Friday August 5. The event is for children aged 6-12 and all BMX or mountain bikes are suitable. Stunt pegs should be removed but this can be done during workshops. Riders should take a packed lunch and wear proper safety gear including helmet, long sleeved top and full finger gloves. Some equipment is available to borrow.

Anyone wishing to take part in the race is required to attend BOTH practice sessions. For more information call road safety officer Rita Burns on 01236 616277.
