Cumbernauld College beauty students receive a vists from VIP guests

A SQUAD of footballers arrived at Cumbernauld College last week to receive some much-needed pampering from beauty students.

Second division side Queen of the South were treated to soothing leg messages from HND Beauty Therapy students at the campus hair and beauty salon Fusion on Thursday, September 20.

The pampering session was organised by Queen of the South assistant manager and Cumbernauld College lecturer Sandy Clark after the team’s success against Rangers in the third round of the Ramsdens Cup.

Sandy, who lectures in the college’s sports performance department, said: “It’s been a tough week for the team with a couple of games coming in a short space of time and I thought why not get them in for a relaxing leg massage at the college’s salon

Fusion.

“The students were only too happy to agree and it gives the players that wee bit of time to relax following the win on Tuesday before we turn our attention to Brechin City on Saturday.”

Student Linda Beattie, from Kilsyth, admitted the experience has made her a fan of the club, who were expected to play Brechin City on Saturday.

She said: “It has been really exciting working with the footballers and after today I think I will become a Queen of the South supporter.

Donna McGirr, curriculum manager for hairdressing and beauty care at Cumbernauld College, added: “It’s a great experience for the students and for the college.

“We try to organise training such as this as much as possible.

“The girls were all excited when they found out and we were definitely not short of volunteers.”

And the players were more than grateful for the hospitality with Queen of the South defender, Ryan McGuffie, who scored the winning penalty against Rangers, saying: “We would like to thank the students of Cumbernauld for their hospitality.

“Treatment like this helps us recuperate after a game - it’s definitely what we need today.

“We are looking forward to the match against Brechin City, on Saturday, which is going to be another tough game.”
