A GROUP which offers a lifeline to the unusually high number of people with diabetes in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth is celebrating its first anniversary with a key event.
Cumbernauld Diabetes Support Group will stage a conference in New Town Hall on Tuesday, June 28 - and as well as guest speakers has issued an open invite to anyone interested to attend.
There are believed to be as many as 4000 diabetic patients within the area but no support group existed for them until last year.
The group was founded by a sub-commitee of Cumbernauld Community Forum which concentrates on health matters - and has the full backing of Diabetes UK.
The conference, to be officially opened by Cumbernauld and Kilsyth MSP Jamie Hepburn, kicks off with a buffet supper at 5pm. Other guest speakers include diabetes specialist Dr Helen Alexander and practise nurse Irene Pillar. A dietician will also attend.
Spokeswoman Rosalyn Griffith said: “We are inviting people along to find out more about the work of the group and how people can access support for themselves or a family member.”
