Cumbernauld Fire Station throws open its doors

A WARM invitation is extended to Cumbernauld folk by local firefighters -who are gearing up for a special day on Saturday.

Firefighters and support staff want to show that their depot in Greenfaulds Road is at the heart of the community and have lined up an interesting selection of special guests from outwith the station. It is being stressed that the day will have a practical side too.

Station Commander John McShane said: “Visitors can chat with us about fire safety in the home and even arrange for firefighters to carry out a free home fire safety visit.’’

Tours around the station are not all that’s on offer as a variety of fire appliances, both modern and vintage will be on display. Plus there will be vehicles from other agencies such as the police and ambulance service. Trossachs search and rescue dogs will also be in attendance.

There will be many fun activities and quizzes for children as well as displays for all in attendance. There will be children’s rides, bouncy castles and face painting.

Many other organisations will have static display stands and provide information at the open day.

These include National Health Service, Community Support Officers, Smoking Cessation and many more.

The event is set to run from 10am to 3pm.
