Scottish Water was forced to apologise to the people of Cumbernauld Village last week after a leak in Bluebell Walk. The area had been beset with foul smells as muddied and contaminated water streamed down from woodland onto Old Glasgow Road.

Staff admitted that they had to harness specialist equipment to fully identify the source of the problem but now they have done so.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water said:“The complex nature of the choke meant we had to examine some 200m of the sewer using camera survey equipment before we could identify the blockage and ensure it was cleared.

“The exploratory work also meant we were able to locate and uncover a previously covered-over manhole which means we will be able to gain access at that location should there be any further incident at this sewer,’’

“We are happy that this matter has been successfully resolved and we would like to apologise to customers affected,’’ he added.
