Cumbernauld wins a host of awards

Cumbernauld communities have picked up a host of honours in the Beautiful Scotland awards

A silver accolades was won by Cumbernauld in the small city category, while in the Urban community category Cumbernauld Village gained silver and Condorrat picked up bronze.

The competition, organised by environmental award scheme Beautiful Scotland, merits local communities which have been successful in improving the attractiveness, cleanliness and sustainability of the area.

Judges commented on the 'great mix' of habitats in Cumbernauld and noted in particular the carefully thought-out, low-maintenance landscaping solutions that attract wildlife. Judges and also highlighted the levels of 'landscape maintenance' which they felt gave a feeling of pride in the community.

In Cumbernauld Village, judges were shown round various garden areas, as well as visiting Cumbernauld House Park and praised local volunteers for the 'considerable progress' they have made to restore the local environment.

In Condorrat judges highlighted the village's 'strong sense of community' and the 100-plus bird boxes that have been made and distributed throughout the village.
