A police operation conducted in Westerwood over the weekend is part of a search being conducted by officers from outwith Cumbernauld, it has emerged.
Police Scotland’s press office have confirmed that woodland near St Andrew’s Drive is being searched by officers from K Division which takes in the Paisley area.
The press officer would not shed any further light on what precisely officers were searching for.
However, she confirmed that the spike in police activity in this residential part of the town was part of an ongoing investigation.
Residents had feared the worst when the area was taped off - and no explanation was given as to why.
However, police say that suggestions that an incident had taken place in this area are without foundation.
