Cumbernauld's biggest event will see town turned into giant running track on Sunday

The giant event has certainly hit its stride as this is the tenth year of the contest and has become a much-anticipated date for competitors all across Scotland, as a matter of course.

Road closures will swing into play from 9.30pm to 1pm on Westfield Road, Mollins Road and Kirkintilloch Road to allow the race to go ahead.

Local residents and businesses have been notified to make more time for their journeys.

Although hard fought, the race is being billed as a family day out and a toddler dash will coincide with the time of the closure.

Races for primary school children will fill in the time slot up to 11am when the 10K itself starts.

It will be officially started by Provost Jim Robertson.

And there will be free family activities and entertainment throughout the morning, including a performance from NL Schools Pipe Band.

Cumbernauld councillor Allan Graham who is chair of town centre group Campsies Centre (Cumbernauld) said: “The Cumbernauld 10k is firmly established as one of our most popular events for runners coming from Scotland and we’re aiming to make this year the best ever.

“With events for toddlers and younger children and the Victory Mile Walk open, there is now something for everyone, no matter their age or ability.”
