Decision on two major developments

North Lanarkshire Council’s planning and transportation committee will meet in Motherwell to discuss the planning applications from NHS Lanarkshire and TJ Morris.

NHS Lanarkshire want to build a new £7.8 million community health centre at a site next to the swimming pool in Kilsyth town centre.

The proposals are to replace the current facility at Burngreen Park with a purpose-built, modern community health centre which will provide a wide range of services including GP practice, mental health, podiatry, physiotherapy, speech and language, NHS dental practice and other local clinics.

This project has been given the green-light by planners.

Meanwhile, TJ Morris, who own Home Bargains, want to build a store and car park with 56 spaces at a site adjacent to Lidl on Garrell Road.

The application was previously submitted last year and later withdrawn before it was resubmitted with a detailed report

The report included with the application says that there are numerous benefits for bringing the store, which sells both food and non food goods, to the town.

These include creation of jobs and new economic activity, increased footfall to the area and increased passing trade for other retails in Kilsyth.

The list of products for sale in the store are mentioned in the report and they include health and beauty, food, toys and games, household, clothing, seasonal products, sweets and snacks, drinks and alcohol and homestyle.

Planners have also recommended that this application should be given the go-ahead.

Councillors will decide on the two applications when they meet at Motherwell’s Civic Centre today (Wednesday) at 11am. A full report on the decisions will be in next week’s News and Chronicle.
