The council’s main Guy Fawkes celebration takes place in Motherwell’s Strathclyde Park the following evening.

Revellers who travel into Glasgow to enjoy the city’s municipal display on November 5 are being reminded that this is breaking with tradition for one year only to accommodate a key football tie.

The display will take place on the same day as the Cumbernauld event to avoid a clash with Celtic’s Europa League matche against Norwegian side Molde at Celtic Park on Guy Fawkes night.

With an estimated combined audience of 100,000 Glasgow council decided to switch the fireworks to the night before for safety’s sake.
