Developers want to discuss former police station site in Kilsyth

The developers who were blocked from turning Kilsyth’s former police station into a retail unit are meeting with key community figures this week to discuss the future of the site.

Brian Robinson, of Crucible Developments and Ged Hainey of Ryden wanted to demolish the site on Parkfoot Road and build a retail unit that would house a Tesco, Iceland and Greggs.

Their plans, however, were rejected by councillors at NLC, and when an appeal was lodged to the Scottish Government’s Reporter, that decision was upheld.

Now the developers are meeting with elected members and the community council on Monday, September 16.

Mr Hainey said: “We are very much looking forward to meeting with the local community council and council members. The key aim of this pre-application meeting is to allow them to express their views regarding the redevelopment of the site. This, in turn, will influence the design of an alternative proposal which will hopefully gain support through the planning system.

“We are very keen to see this important brownfield site developed and to bring new investment and jobs into Kilsyth, but of course, any proposal that we put forward needs to be financially viable.”
