TV has a funny grip on us and dramas can really drag us in, much more than we might like to think.

Dallas is very definitely a case in point. I probably hadn’t thought much about JR and Co. for the last 20 years, but the screening of the new series last week brought it all flooding back.

I can remember exactly where I was when it was discovered who shot JR (Monklands Hospital, recovering from apendicitis, but I dragged myself to the TV lounge to see the baddie exposed) and the plot lines were as fresh in my mind as they were back in the day.

I very quickly updated my teenage daughter on who was who, though explaining the whole Bobby-Ewing-back-to-life-it-was-only a-dream story really stretched credibility. She’s as addicted as me, and we’ve already chosen our favourites among the next generation of Ewings. Now we’ve got something else great to look forward to on Wednesdays.
