Parents feel North Lanarkshire Council has not been proactive in investigating both why staff have resigned, including the previous head and deputy head teachers, and why there are high absence rates with existing staff.

They raised concerns with the acting head teacher and education officers, but maintains there has not been improvement.

An education officer met with parents last month, who presented a list of concerns, and last week the council carried out a validated self-evaluation (VSE) of the school.

Parent Joanne Donnelly said: “It is too little, too late. We’re still waiting for answers after our meeting in September and the results from the VSE. Meanwhile, our children are still suffering and I am extremely angry.”

Parent council chairwoman Jackie Foy added: “I have seen big changes in my son’s behaviour at home due to the stress he is under in school as a result of this situation.”

The council claims it is actively recruiting for new staff.

A spokesperson said: “We are working closely with the acting head teacher to resolve outstanding staffing issues.

“We have temporary fully-qualified staff in place across all areas at the school until the vacant roles are filled.

“Senior education staff have met with members of the parent council and the head teacher to discuss the situation and agree a way forward and we will continue to keep them updated.”
