A CUMBERNAULD woman has struck a blow for equality after tipping the gender balance at a popular local organisation.
For Craigmarloch mum-of-two Elizabeth Robertson has just joined the Rotary Club of Cumbernauld and is the only female member at present.
The team leader at Tesco Craigmarloch is set to bring a female perspective to the good works of the club which has a strong social justice agenda in both the developing world and here in Cumbernauld.
Elizabeth is already very familiar with the club as her husband Ken is a past president of the Rotary Club of Cumbernauld and its current club secretary.
And that’s one of the reasons she wanted to get involved.
Elizabeth said: “ I was impressed by the commitment shown to such a diverse range of projects such as Polio Eradication, sending Shelter Boxes to disaster areas all over the world and giving practical and financial help to a wide range of charities and community groups.
Whilst all of these achievements made Rotary seem a very worthwhile organisation the welcome and friendship experienced at the Rotary Club of Cumbernauld demonstrated that as well as doing good Rotarians also had fun and made friends at the same time,’’ she added.
Elizabeth is seen here being welcomed into the Club by President Brian Wilson who said: “ I was delighted to welcome Elizabeth into our Club and it is already clear that she is enthusiastic about becoming a “hands on “ Rotarian.’’
