Enjoying the Garden Party

BY ROYAL appointment – that was the invitation extended to a number of local ladies whose community spirit makes Cumbernauld a nicer place to be.

Lieutenant Joanna Moir of Cumbernauld was invited along to the Palace of Holyrood for the Queen’s Royal Garden Party earlier this month.

And Joanna invited two members of the corps joined her as a means of rewarding some unsung heroes.

Those chosen were parent and toddler leader Trudi Borland and church member Sheila Morrison who does voluntary work with the elderly.

The group were among those who were invited to meet the royal party and in this case, they chatted with the Duke of Edinburgh whose parting shot to them was: “I take my hat off to you.’’

Joanna said: “This was a fantastic honour. The reception also afforded us an exciting opportunity to meet new people and create stronger ties with organisations that can support the work we do in the community and residents of the local area.”
