A half-hourly rail service between Cumbernauld and Edinburgh is to be introduced and could be up and running by December.
The new service introduced by Transport Scotland -partially to ease pressure on Croy Station where two sizeable car parks exceed capacity every day.
This has led to commuters parking in neighbouring streets in Croy, causing widespread traffic problems.
The introduction of the direct journey will also put an end to many years of having to change at Falkirk Grahamston for Edinburgh-bound passengers.
MSP Jamie Hepburn who has been in negotiations over the move after complaints from constituents said: “The response I received from Transport Scotland is hugely encouraging.”
