Bus station revamp delay

For months, bus drivers, passengers, taxi drivers and other town centre users have been told to ready themselves for diversions.

Yet they no longer need to do so - after it emerged that the long awaited revamp of the decades old Cumbernauld Bus Station has been delayed.

Bus users were told that the work would start on Sunday after months of negotiations on the process but it is not to be.

For red tape has been blamed for the hold-up and the council admits it does not have a start date for the work.

A council spokesperson confirmed: “The partners are working on the final details of the legal agreement to allow the refurbishment of Cumbernauld bus station.

“This has taken longer than anticipated but all partners - North Lanarkshire Council, Campsies Centres (Cumbernauld) Ltd, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport and Hamcap LLP are committed to the project.

“They hope to agree on a start date on site in the near future.

Passengers will be informed of the temporary changes to bus operations while the construction work is carried out when a start date is agreed.

The facility is one of the town’s most criticised buildings amidst claims that it gives an extremely poor impression of Cumbernauld to visitors passing through.
