Conservative's Cumbernauld bid

The Scottish Conservatives have confirmed that they intend to field candidates in Cumbernauld North, Cumbernauld South and Kilsyth for the upcoming council elections.

The party has admitted however that it has not yet selected their contenders in this part of North Lanarkshire.

Last week it was revealed that every existing Scottish Nationalist Councillor in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth had made it through both a local and national vetting process, to stand in the contest which will take place on Thursday, May 4.

It emerged last week that Abronhill Councillor Elizabeth Irvine was the one exception as she is retiring and did not go through the process.

All existing Labour councillors will stand again with the exemption of Councillor Bob Chadha. And it’s been confirmed that three Scottish Socialist party candidates will stand in Cumbernauld.

The closing date for potential candidates is Wednesday March 29.
