It follows a decision taken by council leaders at COSLA the end of last week when they agreed to a plan for the reopening of household waste recycling centres from the beginning of next month.

East Renfrewshire Council has stated today: “We are planning for the reopening of household waste recycling services from 1 June, ensuring that suitable safeguards will be in place for our staff and members of the public.

“Further information will be shared ahead of reopening.”

The recycling centres at Barrhead and Greenhags have been closed since March 23 in line with Scottish Government guidance.

COSLA said its plan for the reopening of sites depended on receiving assurance that this would not negatively impact the Covid-19 infection rate and would be consistent with national travel advice.

It added that there would also be a need to maintain physical distancing for staff and members and public which would determine whether and to what extent individual sites would be able to reopen.
