Fridge gets chilly reception as flytippers flout the law of the land

Waste materials were recently dumped at a lane on the street and discarded items included a fridge, containers, bags of rubbish and other litter such as empty bottles, tins, crisp packets and chip boxes.

Conservative Councillor Nathan Wilson reported the problem to North Lanarkshire Council environment officers who confirmed they will take action.

The affected area is intended for use as a parking area for residents and visitors to Glencleland Road. Councillor Wilson also reports that constituents have spotted furniture dumped on a walking route near Wishawhill Wood Pump Track and has requested this also be dealt with.

Councillor Wilson said: “I was very disappointed to hear of the recent fly-tipping at Glencleland Road.

“I visited the location to have a look in person and it is unacceptable that a large amount of rubbish has been left on site. All fly-tipping serves to do is spoil local areas and cause huge frustration for residents who do not want to see waste materials dumped in their communities.

“There is simply no excuse for such behaviour.

“The council responded quickly to my communications concerning the fly-tipping at Glencleland Road and have confirmed the incident has been logged for action. It is important that the fly-tipping is cleaned up as soon as possible and the condition of the ground restored.

“I have made the local authority aware of concerns reported to me that fly-tipping has also taken place on a walking route leading to the Wishawhill Wood Pump Track and this location will be visited by the relevant council teams.”

A council spokesperson said: “We share Councillor Wilson’s concern about fly-tipping on our streets. Rubbish and litter is not only an eyesore, but can also lead to public health issues as it attracts vermin. Fly-tipping is a criminal activity and our officers can issue a Fixed Penalty Notice of £200. We will remove the rubbish, but the resources involved would be better spent on providing vital local services for residents.
