This is part of a scheme within EDF Energy called ‘Helping Hands’ which allows staff to take two paid days off a year to help out in the local community or for an environmental cause.

Eight employees from the Accounts Payable Department in Finance Shared Services at the company’s East Kilbride office got their gloves on to organise the work and to help with gardening, weeding, topping up soil and planting of new flowers as well as painting some wooden planters.

They are Connie Lamont, Amy Lawrence, Catherine McRobert, Dawn Macfarlane, Lorraine Thompson, Craig Mitchell, David Scott and Garry Price.

One of those who took part, Dawn Macfarlane, said: “The whole team really enjoyed being able to help the school, we got a lot out of it and luckily the weather was beautiful.

“Some of the pupils gave us a hand planting flowers and it all looked fabulous by the time we had finished.

“Lunchtime was a real highlight for us all with fish and chips then jelly and ice cream in the school dining hall!”

“I’d also like to thank Dobbies Garden Centre in Cumbernauld which very kindly provided flowers, bulbs, seeds and gardening tools.”

North Lanarkshire Council Education Officer Lorraine Fisher said: “The pupils had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the extra help at the school garden. And it’s great to know our school lunches aren’t only for kids.”
