Litter louts in Lenzie may be spreading Covid-19

Litter louts in Lenzie could be spreading the Covid-19 virus through their actions.

A local woman expressed her disgust on social media at the sight of disposable gloves and wipes on the ground near where she lives.

And environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy warned the habit could lead to a spread of the deadly bug.

The local woman posted a photo of the amount of discarded public personal protective equipment.

She posted: “Disposable gloves and wipes now as common a sight in Lenzie as bags of sweating dog... on top of and around but inexplicably not actually in, bins.

Coronavirus or not, its’s littering. Took these photos in the space of about three minutes walking. If you feel the need to use these instead of actually washing your hands, at least dispose of them properly. Why should someone else have to pick these up after you?”

A fellow resident agreed and added: “Co-op car park is full of them most mornings and down Cedar Drive we have to go out and lift them daily.”

Keep Britain Tidy has reported an alarming rise in personal protective equipment (PPE) used by the general public being dumped on the streets instead of being placed in a bin.

Allison Ogden-Newton, chief executive at the charity, described scenes of streets littered with used disposable gloves and face masks as “heartbreaking, wrong and thoughtless” because they can harbour the coronavirus.
